Julia Creek Passenger Terminal - 1963/1974

Julia Creek 1963

The photo above shows the Passenger Terminal at Julia Creek aerodrome, in outback Queensland, shortly after its construction in September 1963. The photo at bottom shows a local awaiting the arrival of the TAA Fokker in June 1974.

In 1974, Julia Creek was served by a TAA Fokker F.27 Friendship service on the route Townsville-Charters Towers-Hughenden-Richmond-Julia Creek-Cloncurry-Mt Isa. The service operated daily but only stopped at Julia Creek on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.

Captain Reg Adkins, a pilot with MacRobertson Miller Airlines in Western Australia recalled "I remember back in 1959 when we were doing our F.27 Engineering course with TAA, our Instructor gave us a hint on how to diagnose engine difficulties: 'If you happen to break down at an out of the way dump like Julia Creek...'. So we MMA students immediately transformed that place name into 'Derby, WA' and we knew what he meant!"
